hi there we have had several tries to record a couple of films from our recorded programmes with Virgin but our last attempt we had sound only on the DVD and no vision. Please could someone provide an idiot's guide of what to plug into where to achieve a recording of sound and vision! We've followed instructions in the instruction manual but obviously did something wrong. thanks

Tell us what plugs and sockets you have.
What model is the DVD recorder?
Do you have a link to an online version of the manual?0 -
hi there it's Sony DVD recorder and Sony TV. He used scart leads but don't know which he connected to which. I think we removed the TV to DVD recorder one and used it to connect DVD recorder to the V+ box. Never thought of looking in the DVD recorder manual for instructions but will do now.0

The most likely problem, then, is SCARTs not fully inserted into sockets

You were the one who said "We've followed instructions in the instruction manual" .....0 -
sorry yes I meant the instruction manual for the V+ machine. Will get OH to have a look later as I'm no use. thanks anyway0

You need two SCART leads. One from the V box into the DVD recorder, and one from the DVD recorder to the TV so you can monitor what you're recording (and make sure sound and picture are both OK as you record.0

Make sure the socket you are connecting V+ to DVD Recorder is an input source. On my parents Sony DVD Recorder this is labelled as Line1 (L1).thanks that is what we did actually. If when you finally get a picture it has the wrong colours then there is a setting in the DVD Recorder setup that can change the type of video the DVD recorder is expecting. When trying to record on their machine people were originally appearing with blue skin!0
