BT Graphite 1100 Cordless Phone Fault

Hi folks,
I'm looking for a base station for a BT Graphite 1100 (may need to scroll down to see), for some reason it is not transmitting a signal to the handsets anymore (though it does charge handsets when they're docked).
The Item Code is 038555. I called BT's helpline and was told they could supply the base station on its own but it would cost £18. Double that and I can get a new set of cordless phones.
I'm not impressed with BT's attempt to profit out of the fact their original product was not of satisfactory quality. I've searched for more competitive prices but have not been able to find any.
Can anyone recommend alternatives to BT where just the base unit can be purchased? It's the round black unit you see in the above link.
Thanks

Better yet, avoid the BT 'made down to a price' and go for a real brand (like Panasonic).0
