Flight to NY

Hi all,

I'm going to New York in November for 1 week. Leaving Saturday 30th November, returning 7th December. The cheapest DIRECT flights I've found are on STA travel flying with BA for £994.10.
Does this sound like a good price?

Regards,
Richard.

  • Hi Richard

Is this price for hotels included? Is it for you alone?

If it is for flights alone it is not a good price..

    How much?!
Nearly fell off my chair.... unless that price includes accomodation or an upgrade to WT+? - if so, that is not clear from the OP

A quick look on kayak shows non-stop/direct flights on those dates from £440
(Assuming economy and flying from London)
    BA £541
2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shading
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end
    MFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07
    2021 £1250.00, 2022 £1500.00, 2023 £1500, 2024 £1350
    2025 target = £1200, YTD £9190

  • Hi,
I should have put a bit more details in.
It's flights only travelling from Manchester. That price is for 2 people return.
    Thanks,
    Richard.

Note that the operating carrier will be American Airlines, not BA. I'd recommend booking straight from the airline instead of going through a 3rd party.
  • Hi,
Just been to the AA site and looked at the cost of booking direct and it came out at £1252. Not sure why though!
    Regards,
    Richard.

Book it through BA.com and it's only £1,104. It's up to you of course if you're willing to pay the extra, just be aware of the potential hassles of going through a 3rd party.
  • What hassles. Surely you book the flight, get on it and fly. Or am I being naive?

Basically, any issues arise with your booking (schedule changes/cancellations/booking errors) you'll need to go through the 3rd party to get them sorted, rather than being able to deal directly with the airline. This is the case for all 3rd party sites, good or bad. Then you've got the risk of buying from someone dodgy or just incompetent. There are plenty of cases of reservations being lost or 3rd party bookers taking your money and then claiming the price has gone up and that you need to pay more. Read through forums such as these and you'll find that the vast majority of problems people encounter involve bookings made through 3rd parties.

That said, you can do a lot to protect yourself. Obviously do a bit of research on the company you are looking to buy from. You are, after all, about to hand over almost £1000 to them. Check the reservation with the airline after booking to ensure that you have a confirmed reservation and that an e-ticket has been issued. And finally, make sure to check regularly for schedule changes yourself, do not rely on the booking site to keep you informed.
  • Not sure thats the case on trans atlantic flights. You can normally get into your online booking with the airline itself if its an American Carrier and see your booking?
