Had to sell our previous house 2 1/2 years back to due little equity for next property and so the OH and I moved back with mum to save for a deposit. We are now going through the process of buying a bigger house but was wondering when it comes to choosing an energy provider, how would we chose which is the best to go to if we haven't been an energy customer for so long?
Been on one of the comparison sites and they are asking for current suppliers and recent bills, obviously we can't supply those details

You'll have current supplier(s) - that'll be whoever currently supplies the property and with whom you must register first before anything else.
Comparison sites have a facility to help those like you who don't know their likely annual consumption - use that0 -
For the purpose of getting the comparative data, you can enter any supplier and tariff you like, plus estimated kWh figures
As above, you will be in a deemed contract with the existing suppliers from day one.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

If that's the case sit tight for at least 1 quater then do it. that way you'll have a better idea of your usage over 3 months. Each householder does stuff differently - you may have less electrical appliances than vendor or you may have heating on less and so on.0
