Help please with switching!
Hi, I wondered if someone could help. I have been with Eon for years on a prepayment meter for both gas and electric. I am currently paying on (on average) £100 for gas and £60 for electric per month, which I feel is a bit excessive. (Also my boiler is at least 30 years old and I haven't had hot water for 2 years, it was going to cost a fortune to fix it but cannot afford it or to get a new one at the moment, so gas bill is purely for heating)
I am desperate to change to paper billing and have been checking umpteen comparison sites. When I put in that I am on a prepayment plan, the sites only give me prepayment options regardless of what plan I opt for, which is really frustrating. I don't want to contact another supplier until I know all my options ie opt out charges and trqnsfer costs etc. What can I do?

When using a comparison website, to find the cheapest tariff simply put down you are paying by Direct Debit and want to pay by Direct debit and it will list the tariffs in order of price.
However you must put down your annual kWh consumption. If you don't know the figure, ring your supplier and ask.
If you havent had hot water for years(but get heating) then the fault is not the boiler. It is most likely to be the motorised 3 way valve. Somewhere near your Hot Water Tank will probably be one of these.

There is a silver lever that you can move by hand - try that and see if it gets you hot water.
If so it is the top part of that valve that needs replacing.0 -

Then don't put in the comparison site that you currently have a PPM.
As Cardew says, you'll need to input your annual consumption in kWh.
You can get this preferably from your current supplier, or use the figures that are generated from the comparison site when you say you do have a PPM.
If you follow this advice, ignore any suggested savings and just compare the annual cost figures with what you currently pay.
Remember, you will need a new meter before you can take advantage of any of credit meter tariffs. You may have problems getting a credit meter, and even then a charge may apply (as well as the supplier asking for a security deposit)

If you don't want to pay to fix your motor valves (not that expensive a job), then do you really want to pay to switch to credit meters? It's normally around £60 per meter, unless you can blag them for free.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
