You say you are on maternity leave, I am too and have just sold about 10 items of maternity clothes and I made about £80 on eBay which isn't bad considering I don't intend to wear them again! I've sold a lot of baby clothes too (I personally find these sell better in a job lot / bundle) Good luck xx

  • I just wanted to wish you luck and say well done for not just sticking it on the cards! Glad to see you havent had any negative comments either.

I sympathise about the family thing too. My sister and family are loaded and whenever we go to visit them its so hard. They just have no concept of not being able to afford to go to Starbucks or eat out every day or maybe have a takeaway and a couple of bottles of wine. When we went on holiday with them a couple of years ago I was just so stressed the whole time about the money we were spending. Then they were buying stuff for their kids the whole time as well....

Anyway, thats just my woes, I really hope you do it. Good luck!
  • Thanks for these replies!

My cd collection is pretty dire...am sure no one would buy them at a boot sale!

I gave a lot of my maternity clothes to charity shop...regretting that now!Ive got a couple of things, plus a few nice dresses I will never fit back into so could sell them!

I have no option to put the holiday on card...it's been paid for by family member so we owe him. At the time it was booked I was anticipating more money in from business but its not happened. This is on top of my additional mat pay ending sooner than I thought, plus a new car tyre and a new battery for another car in the last week!

Am feeling a bit more positive now as I feel like I'm doing something. If I can get rid of the earrings, even for £200 I would be happy. Then if I can get a couple of hundred pounds from eBay, that would help too. Add in the writing and swagbucks etc maybe another £100? Then the extra work/keeping in touch days will be the other £500...

An ambitious plan but it needs to work out!!

He is. He will buy more shopping etc in the next month to give us some more spare cash, and he already pays twice the share of the bills. He knows the issue, and he's already suggested some stuff for me to eBay.

However, the paying for the holiday normally comes from my business, but not normally till just before we go. It's the timing, on top of maternity leave, plus an additional£1000drop in income which has caused this added stress.

    .

See, this is something I've never understood, the idea of split bills and split incomes. I've just never worked like that and I wouldnt either. What comes into my house is household income. Decisions on spending are taken jointly and private spends are agreed before hand up to a certain amount (like birthdays).

  • FireWyrn - it works for us. We have a joint account for bills and money left over for us to spend as we see fit. Since I have had my lightbulb moment, I've been seeing fit to spend it on debts!

Yes, but wouldnt you as a family get out more quickly if you pooled your resources. Wouldnt this only be a good thing for your family as a whole? If one is wondering about making ends meet while the other isnt, surely this doesnt make for a happy family dynamic.

    Hi there,

The best way to find out what sells on EBay is to search the item you have, but then go to "Advanced Search" and tick the "Completed Listings" option. That will tell you if it is worthwhile listing or not.

Regards your cd collection, you'd be surprised what sells! Always worth searching. Hope this helps.
