National Insurance / Tax Credits

My husband and I have both always worked full time so out NI was paid by our employers. We have just had our third child and have decided that for the next few years my husband will stay at home with the children while I work, as the childcare costs for our two youngest would be more than his wage.
My question is what happens with his National Insurance Contributions? are they covered by the Tax Credits or will he need to make his own payments? I understand as I claim child benefit for our children my payments are covered as a parent but can we transfer this cover to him as he will be the main carer, but without transferring the child benefit as it goes into my bank due to all our bills being payed from my account.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

I spent last year hunting for a battery operated hamster! I wonder what elusive gift this christmas will bring

You've got 2 'choices' 1) Child benefit is paid to him and therefore he's covered or 2) pay the conts - i think about £13 a week, am sure someone will give the exact figure, I don't think that tax credits with cover himLove many, trust few, learn to paddle your own canoe.
“Don’t have children if you can’t afford them” is the “Let them eat cake” of the 21st century. It doesn’t matter how children got here, they need and deserve to be fed.0 -
Have not read all the details but the following looks like it would cover your case.

I believe you can transfer the child benefit to him, and he can nominate your account to pay it into. So he's officially getting paid but it's going to your account. If this isn't possible then you could just set up a regular transfer most banks will allow this.0
