The power board in the living room?

Hi,

We are using the room in the middle of the house as the living room, but we have a very small front room which we want to start using as second room sometimes.

The thing I'm concerned about is that the power board, and obviously, the electric meter is in there, low down on the wall.

We are going to try and cover it with thin wood, making a door over it, but is it harmful having the meter and all that electricity in a small space where we'll be sitting only a few feet away from it?

I've been reading about the harmful effects from a smart meter, but don't know if being near to a digital one can be harmful?

Thanks,
Candy

Are you referring to the consumer unit? Post a pic.

Sorry, I can't post a pic as I access the net on my phone.

Yeah, I mean the consumer unit, with meter, circuit breakers, and where all the electricity is wired to. The wiring goes down and under the floor boards.

I've been to the site and had a good read but can't see anything about my particular concern, so I've emailed them for some advice.

The meter and consumer unit are separate, though often adjacent. The former is not your responsibility, the latter is.

extremely common to have both gas and electric meters in the main sitting room, a fair proportion of terraced house have that with the meters tucked away in cupboards. on the floor near the front windows usually.theres no dangerous live electricity cables on show anyway
Take the harmfull effects of smart meters with a big pinch of salt, you re got wifi yoursef havent you ? if you have, that will be sending out more signal then smart meters. I ve got one, they are excellent devices. It may be doing me out of a job tho!
