How to word response to avoid a neg

I recently sold some computer speakers as collection only. I would have freecycled them but they are in good nick and the freecyclers round my way are unreliable free loaders who seemingly want and want and then want you to deliver it too!

Anyway so it they went for 99p, which was fine because really I wanted them gone, and the buyer paid instantly by paypal which was annoying as I stated cash on collection for all items, but seeing as it's just a quid I emailed them and said it was fine, when would they like to collect.

That was friday, I just this minute got a response saying 'oh yea can u post my bad sorry didnt read the listing, i will pay 4 postage'.

Now the reason I wanted them picked up was a) because they will cost a fortune to post being heavy and b) I don't want to get involved in posting things, that way madness and paypal disputes lie. Additionally even if I charged him actual postage plus, say a quid, I would still be out of pocket having to spend time packing, then drive & park at the PO.

How do I say 'no chance matey' without putting his back up???

Oh and ARGH!

  • Just be uber polite and through gritted teeth say something along the lines of

    "Good morning/evening,
Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, I am unable to offer postage on this item as I cannot get it to a post office due to its weight/size/dimensions etc. I apologise for any disappointment this may cause, and I will of course provide an immediate refund if you are not able to collect.
    Kind regards,
    YourEbayUsername."

I know it's his fault for not reading the listing properly but be careful.:(

Thanks, that's exactly what I have done.

Once again, all the power in a buyer's hands. Infuriating!
I reckon they could have run to a tenner if had been willing to post as I had a few queries, so there's definitely no way I'm giving in...

On the plus side three other items collected exactly when they said they would be within two days of auction close - and jolly nice people too. One in four isn't too bad...

If they do leave a neg you may be able to try and get it removed because they were asking for something not in the listing ie delivery.

That is exactly what I will do if I find somewhere that takes them. Thanks.
