Can I use BT Homehub phone as regular phone?

Options
Hi

For some reason, BT sent me a Home Hub phone today (already sent me one months ago which is connected to the home hub (hardly use though!!)).

I tried to use it as a 'regular' phone, but then noticed the hole where the phone line goes is a lot larger than usual. Does anyone know if it's possible to use as a landline phone, and if you can buy the correct cable easily?? It's just it's a nice phone and a shame to waste it!

Many thanks

Mrs P

Nope, it's a VoIP phone so it has an ethernet connection, not a phone line connection.

Sorry to correct you seaweasel but you can.I paired mine up with my other dect phones and it works fine.I have the home hub but already get free calls with my provider so didn't want to use it as a voip phone. You can plug it in independently or I actually have mine attached to the hub but only receive landline calls on it.You only need to use the power cable.
Just edited to add that you need to already have a dect phone though.

Although seaweasel is right that it doesn't have a phone line connection. It can only connect through an existing DECT system but you can't physically plug it into the phone line. So really the answer depends on whether the OP has an existing DECT phone or not, but you can't plug it into the phone line.

Ah, interesting. Didn't realise DECT was cross-compatible with different manufacturers.

Sorry yeah your right.Just looked at mine and I think the socket the op is looking at is only so that the phone can get power from the hub rather than using the seperate lead.

Not sure if I have a DECT phone - I guess that means I haven't LOL!! I have a basic bog standard phone, then I have the bt wireless hub that has a broadband phone attached to it - I get free calls on that evenings and weekends.

I just wanted to use this spare phone on my 'normal' phone line which is what I manly use.

    Hope that made things clearer.
