Switching while in Credit ?

Hi

After doing some comparison on energy providers I realise that I can save myself some money by switching. However I am in credit with my current provider ( Southern Electric ). Should I try and get this refunded before I switch or should there be no problems in getting this back from my current provider once the account is closed ?

Thanks

Once you receive your final billing you will receive whatever credit is due within a few weeks.

  • I switched from SSE myself back in September and they dealt with the credit as a refund to my bank account. I did phone them and ask for the monthly debits to be reduced to £1 to reduce the payments to a minimum and still allow them to refund the credits back to my bank account. This worked well apart from the Scottish Power messing up the meter reading which I had to sort out to get an accurate final reading to get the correct refund.

SSE did phone me after I had started the switch to see if they could change my mind before it went ahead. I told them that I was fairly pleased with their service but their telephone marketing sales were a right PITA. The person who phoned me admitted that at the end of the day, it always comes down to price and the £70 cashback I got was hard to beat.
