I always had the Bank of Mum & Dad to fall back on. They dug me out at school, and when I moved to the city. When I moved to the UK they paid off my US credit cards. I received money from them last about two years ago.
I really would like to pay them back somehow. A grand thank you gesture before they're too old, like flights here and a 1st class on the Eurostar to Paris. Helping build them a new garage, that sort of thing.
I had a lightbulb moment around last Xmas after reading about MSE on a triathlon forum - now there is some pricey sport! But I'm good at it, so I want to get in profit so I can afford to do it, instead of sweating what the wife thinks.
Now my main hope is to geek out on finances as much as geeking out on tri.
