how to set pc to when first bought home

Hi
I have Dell desk top tower but have forgotten password so want to set it back to when new with no downloads and have no disk either

can anyone help as need to do it today

Dell's process varies depending on how old the machine is and what operating system it shipped with, if you look up your model on the Dell site you will find the instructions how to do it. It's usually just a case of pressing a button when the machine starts up to launch the recovery software and then you can choose to restore the machine back to the original shipping condition.

Try pressing the F10 key repeatedly while booting. If you get it sorted write down your passwords and put it in a safe place.:cool:

it depends on the model and operating system, xp era CTRL F10, and may require the admin password if it's vista (F8 advanced) or later, in which case you may have to use a password cracker or reset tool (which you could use anyway to avoid the factory restore - see below). If you need any data from it first, you can use another boot disc, or disk caddy, or plug the disk into another machine.

Can i explain my issue again as when i start the pc get the del logo then get mirco logo and then get ctrl alt delte to to get to pass word but as i have forgotten the password and have no files on it which i need i ant get back to restore to factory and then will download what i need on to it which the easy and best way please

if it's under 6 years old probably F8, if it's older probably CTRL F10

if you want to just reset the password, use one of the other tools linked to, to create a boot cd, boot from it, reset the password

What if want to restore to factory as for gotten password will still need to f8 or ctrl & f10
