Can they do this?

I recieved my JSA yesterday into my bank account.

I payed my rent at midnight the same day on line payment.

I checked my bank today, it seems they have canceled that payment to take their bank charges bank.

Can they do this, because I made payment going out before hand ?

I will be calling the bank Monday, if they dont have the right to do this ? I will contacting my local MP.

Now i will be behind with my rent.

Did you pay by debit card or direct debit? If it was debit card I don't understand how they could stop it because as soon as you pay the money has gone and the rent will be paid and they can't get the money back, or they would have to ask the person it was paid to to give it back,if it was DD then they can take their charges and just not pay the DD as you wouldn't have enough funds.

My bank takes its charges out on the same day each month so I make sure I leave a couple of pounds in the bank each week to save for the charges so I know there will be enough for the bank and the bills I have, they will always take their money first ( in my banks case) and if there is none left for DDs then that's tough on me and they will charge me for having a failed DD.

There was a time when the banks couldn't take benefit money for charges if it meant leaving someone with nothing to live on but I think this may have changed, all I know is if they can do something legally they will do it even if it means leaving someone starving and homeless.

I made the card payment by electron visa card, and one other purchase, normally i can see what amount is going out from my account,because there is 2 figures, one on top which are waiting to go out and the other is my balance. Normally my rent takes 2-3 days to come out which always shows on top. On my bank statement its says Bank charges out.

Yes i am claiming housing benefit, which is payed to my housing association and i made up what they ask for.
