I have always made a point of cancelling continuous authority with anyone like insurance company, AA etc. I also have no insurance renewals due and my AA cover is still current due to expire in October. I was racking my brains about any possible continous authority bu there isn't one and I've certainly not received any renewal paperwork from anyone as all my insurances etc are current.
I am ABSOLUTELY sure this is not a payment I have authorised. There are very, very few transactions I would make which would be of this much money and I would remember making one.

Thank you for all the help and info. I did actually speak to the fraud team and they were the ones that told me to call back on Monday. They didn't supply me with any reference number but I did take a note of the name of the chap I spoke to.

Yes, old card was physically destroyed.

Looks like I will just have to wait 'til Monday, but I'm grateful for some of the procedures being explained to me - thank you. At least I can be confident I've done everything I need to do in the meantime and haven't missed anything.

It could be an old transaction that wasn't debited at the time.

Immediate refund over the weekend you wont stand a chance.

Their is a possibility the transaction could be genuine the best people to speak to will be the fraud team they will be able to tell you who the transaction is too and maybe jog your memory.

Plus telephone banking do not have access to all systems over the weekend. Therefore they are possibly kind of correct telling you to call back on Monday,
    .

    About time they did then.....
Telephone banking team should have access to account details to see what the transaction is. Given they says its a POS. Although is that internet or at a retailer... Not really enough info.

I deal with fraud and no matter what day of the week, it will be delt with and refunded, after questining customer.

Interesting to note OP has not posted who the transaction is too....
Would make giving advice a lot easier.

Given its on a old card (no details of how old though) My money is on a CPA. Unless card has only just been replaced.
Never ASSUME anything its makes a

I don't know who the payment is to as I haven't made it and bank are saying they do not have the merchant information yet, despite debiting the amount. The cancelled card expired October last year and was destroyed immediately.

Not necessarily an immediate refunded: In the case of the payment not being completed by the payee, a typical time-scale in making held funds available (returned to the account) is 10 days.

    Thank you.

So the transaction has not yet debited, only it is at authorisation and is taking up avaiable funds.
Strange that they cannot tell you who it is though. As auths still carry the retailers name.

So in such cases until it has fully debited it can not be refunded. What they should do if its causing issues is increase your O/D for free till it can be sorted.

Given the card was from October, then either its a retailer processing a transaction late. Or a CPA.

Best wait till monday and see what the fraud team say. As it won't fully debit over the weekend. More likely not till late on monday.

Maybe you could have a word with the banks IT team on the companies behalf.

The only time telephone banking will see the payee for a POS transaction is once its been completed.

ALL bank staff that are customer facing have access to a customer account. If they do not then what is the point of them...
They should have the ability to see ALL debits and also ALL auths coming through, pending DD's and payments coming in.
Anything less is a waste of time.

I know ALL our front line staff have exactly the same basic account details that we do....
As they are often told when they come through asking if we have any more insight onto transactions. :rotfl:
Yes we have access to indepth Visa and security systems, but these do not give you any more info on transactions.

Do you not have online access to your account?

What does it say on your transactions list?

May be at the place you work they do. They obviously don't at Natwest, from what stclair says.
