I wasnt allowed HB when I was a student. I did get ADG though as I am married and have two children. I graduated im 2008 so I am not sure if the HB rules have changed. I did get a 25% reduction on my council tax though so do be dure to take a letter confirming that you are a full time student to your council to take advantage of that council tax reduction.0

Dunroamin, that Nus link was really helpful. Thanks for all the replies. I am now feeling more confident that I can make this work.0

As a full time student you're not eligible to claim HB although your wife may be able to
Yes you are.
But only if you have dependent children, as the OP does. We have lived in two different local authorities whilst being HE students, one when I was HE and partner was dependent adult, and HB was paid, albeit at a slightly lower rate. For the past 2 years, both if us are HE students, and full HB is paid to Local Housing level.
I can't give you rule and law paragraph as to why, and how the calcs are administered but that is how it works.
Looking at the applicable allowance, I should the OP will get small amount of HB based on his wife's income.
Btw, claim was originally in my name, and then some time later in joint names.0 -
fishybusiness, I have a mortgage, would the HB contribute towards the interest payments on this? or only if I was in rented accommodation?0
