Breakdown and Accident Recovery

Does anyone know of a breakdown company that will actually come out and recover your vehicle in the event of an accident?

The AA, RAC, Green Flag - in fact just about all the companies won't. If you have cover with them and think they will as part of that cover, trust me, they won't. If you still think they do, ring them and ask.

Most will, at best, arrange for a recovery company local to you to come and recover you. Some will want paying there and then, others later and will charge even more if you want the vehicle taken home, not to their yard (where they can charge you daily storage).

Whilst you can recover this charge if someone else is to blame for the accident, if you cause the crash or crash your own car and you're third party only, you could be looking at a bill of £200+

I've tried loads of companies and they all say the same thing. Some won't even assist in finding a recovery company for you. I don't want my wife stuck at an accident somewhere trying to arrange a recovery.

Apparently Land Rover Assist might do this but I have to wait until Monday to ring them (as I own a Land Rover) but I can't find a company that will do this ordinarily.

Britannia did for me, but it was a few years ago. Their bill went against the claim, but I was fully comp.

Autoaid may be a solution as they mention recovery in the event of an accident in their policy documents.

Brittania are one of the ones that will arrange a recovery but you have to pay for it. Better than some though. I do have fully comp, but I'd want things to be as simple as possible for my wife (and my daughter by then end of the year when she starts driving) if they have an accident.

AA's new 'Silver' membership provides accident recovery according to my renewal pack i've just had.

Tilt, I'd ring the AA and check. I think you'll find the most they'll do is call a recovery service on your behalf - and you could end up paying for it.

just looked at Autoaid. They'll come out for accidents but you have to pay the recovery fee and claim it back from them (apparently it's the same for breakdowns according to their T&C's). It's not clear if they will deal with the costs of recovery after an accident or if they'll expect the insurance companies to deal. I might ring them Monday.

With AutoAid you pay the recovery company and then claim the cost back; it's just like insurance. So long as you keep a card on you to pay with or have one at home then you just ring them up and they arrange recovery anywhere in the UK. £38 a year, bargain. I used them once and it was fine. Recovery cost was £110 which I got back after two weeks.
