Was wondering if anyone can give me some advice? Basically I moved into a new flat 5 months ago and was told by my letting agent that they would notify edf to let them know I'd moved in and to give them the meter reading. A few weeks ago I realised I'd not had a bill so I contacted edf to find out why, was told over the phone that no account in my name or address had been set up. So i e-mailed my letting agent to query this and they forwarded me the e-mail they sent edf when I moved in, the e-mail gave the date of moving in and metre readings. Got back in touch with edf who still maintain they haven't had any contact with my letting agent and the first they knew of anything was when I got in touch with them.
Has anyone else had similar problems and where do I stand regarding paying the bill as its now 5 months since I moved in, I don't think it's fair if I now get a bill for 5 months worth of electric!

Lol, just get in touch with them (EDF) yourself.
Why is it not fair.
Youve used 5 months worth of electric, you pay for 5 months worth of electricity.
Ideally, you should be putting money aside each month to pay for it when you do get a bill.
Absolutely nothing unfair about that.
What would be unfair would be them trying to charge you for 6,8, 10 or so months of electricity.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Maybe I didn't explain myself properly! I have been in touch with edf, this is how I found out they had no record of an account being set up. Just feel stuck in the middle as edf are saying they only knew of me moving in when I rung them a few weeks ago and my letting agent is saying they let edf know when I first moved in. As its now nearly 6 months I will probably be charged this by edf, which I feel is unfair when you pay quarterly, clearly a mistake has been made by either edf or my letting agent.0

So if you don't want to pay for the electricity you've used, who do you think should pay? Is the money you've saved not in your account?0

Then contact your letting agent again and again till it is sorted.
You still have to pay for the leccy you have used though.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

When have I said I've not got the money? Just wanted to find out if anyone else has had a similar problem with edf and how it was resolved. Also have I said I'm not going to pay, I've just said it seems unfair if edf now want me to pay them 2 quarters of electric straight away. Apologies if I haven't explained this properly, just thought that this was a forum for advice not for people to assume I'm trying to be a scrounger or beat the system! Won't bother next time!!!0

Do you have a persecution complex. No one said you had not got the money, no one said or assumed that you were a scrounger or try to beat the system.
Boy oh boy.
You got help, go to the letting agency, bother them till they do actually set up an account for you. I actually said all this before in my earlier post.
I dont know why you are getting so defensive. I dont understand why you dont think its fair that you should have to pay for electricity yu have used. Some people have an annual bill and pay it because its for electricity that they have used.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

It's the responsibility of the householder to register, not the agent or landlord. Never trust an agent who offers to do this for you, they'll invariably screw up (and you can't register for an account by email anyway). You were in a deemed contract from the day you moved in, so you are liable for all the usage since then.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Wether or not this screw-up is the fault of the Agent or EDF makes no difference as to you having to pay for the power used
However the upside is that you have proof of the Meters reading when you moved in, and as such EDF won't be able to bill you for anything prior to that reading and date.
There is a bit of downside in that for 6 months EDF have had you on their expensive 'Standard' tariff with no discounting for D/Debit payments and Online billing.
As soon as you get this Bill, double up the number of Kwh charged and use this as your Annual consumption figure on a couple of Switch sites to find a cheaper tariff0
