Any Comeback

Hi,

Would I have any comeback on a builder that did an £80,000 extension
nearly 3 years ago.Had an extension with a new bathroom, bedroom ,en-suite room and sun room.

Already had to have the floor replaced in the en-suite room along with the vinyl and plumbers bill due to the wrong kind of pipe being fitted , the toilet the pipe had been leaking and the water going under the vinyl we did not discover until the floor was gone.Cost nearly a £1000 to fix but wopuld have been much more it had gone under the shower.

Now today after suspecting that we may have a leak under the bathroom shower I managed to pull the vinyl back to confirm my fears. This probably means removing the shower cubicle and tray to replace the floor and fix the leak ,I remember the builder saying they had a problem getting it to line up to the waste but they got it done,I suspect this to be the problem, leaking at the waste under the shower cubicle tray.

The bathroom is tiled as well and I think the tiles will have be broken to get the cubicle tray out,all in all a rather expensive job.

I let our first problem with the en-suite go,but this time my wife thinks I should approach the builder,oh I should add he is a very reputable builder but the plumber he used maybe not so.

What would you do if your were me.

  • As it sounds like you haven't given the builder the chance to rectify any of the problems I would guess (and it is just that) that you may be stuffed.

The first problem is in the past now but I haven't decided what to do about this newly discovered probem the leak from under the shower cubicle tray ,I am asking here to see if there is any hope/point in speaking to the builder as so much time as past since the extension was done.

Well with all the horror stories you hear about buidlers he may tell you to get lost - but worth a try if he was reputable.

Legally you have rights udner the SUpply of Goods and Services Act 1982. As mentioned, you would need to show that the problem was cause dby his original work and was not interefered with by the other guy who fixed the first problem.
