Tax Credits.

I have notified Tax credits today of change in circumstances.(no longer a single parent).

They have stopped my payments until they have processed the new application. They are sending out the new form to complete but can not give me a time frame.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I'm going to really struggle with my childcare bills (payable weekly as TC were paid weekly) if this takes a while to go through. I've been through the the do I qualify section and it shows that I'll still be entitled to a large amount of my childcare paid for.

They are usually quite quick when reassessing claims - i had mine done a few weeks back and it was done in time for the next months payment so i didn't miss any - just make sure you fill in the form as soon as possible and send back with all the relevant info. If you don't hear anything after a week or so, just give them a call and ask where it's at, i found them to always be v helpful & friendly

It is standard procedure to stop the old claim as soon as you inform them of a household breakdown.

Call them about a week after you have sent the forms back. As soon as the award shows on their computer they can progress it for and if anything needs to be checked they can ask you on the phone rather than send a letter out.

Send a covering letter as well asking for the new claim to run from the day after the old claim ended (i.e if your partner moved in on the 1st april, ask the new claim to run from the 2nd april onwards.)

Just keep in touch and be proactive and that will help get your new claim through the system.
