Did i get prickly heat?

just wondering- i thought that prickly heat was sort of bumpy/lumpy rashy thing, i have seen it before when we lived in the tropics-
however when i was on holiday this time i developed a sort huge 'rash' on my chest and stomach( not in any sweat areas). but mine was sort of blisters! kind of filled with water and they completely covered the whole of my chest!! what a mess. i did put 30 plus suncream on before this so i was protected, very strange. eventually my chest peeled cos of the blisters.

i had similar a couple of years ago and i was at the beach and someone told me to go in the sea and rub them away and it worked! but didnt work in the hotel pool so it could have been the salt water that helped.

how do i avoid getting this again? it looked such a mess in the evening when i went out and then when it peeled it looked better..

I get this on my arms & head [I'm a baldy] the only way to avoid it is to cover up or be strict with applying sun block regularly
My doctor said it was prickly heat

My hubby also gets it and as done for about 15 years, best way hes found of controling it is to wear only cotton clothes, exfoliate before your trip, shower twice a day and dont rub dry dab dry, keep out of the strongest sun and apply Clinque 30 regulary its importmant to only use none oily or creamy sun lotion as to not block the pours becuase this is one of the reasons for the rash..oh and start antihystemins <sp> 2 days before and take them once a day through out the holiday.
This is whats worked for him
    Hope that helps

I always used to get what I thought was prickly heat but after being trained on suncreams (whilst working at Boots) I was told that you only get prickly heat in the tropical countries.
I still got a red sore rash that was really itchy but couldnt scratch it was too sore :  I would only get it on my chest.

I dont get any rash now or burn as I swear by P20.

It sounds awful what you had.

Prickly heat can happen in any country - it is a reaction to the UV rays of the sun, I use Piz Buin 'Allergy' sun cream and havent had it since using this. Lots of sun screens are now available in 'Allergy' form.

Zinc Oxide talc is great for prickly heat too. I suffered very badly one year in Borneo and this is what the locals advised me to try...just used to apply it liberally at bedtime every night and it worked a treat!

I've heard aloe vera is great for prickly heat and also, from the bizarre angle - beef tomates sliced up and placed on the skin. Not tried either myself as I don't suffer - but my sister does - she usually uses calomime lotion or vinegar though.

Vinegar!! Ouch!! that sounds painful to me, Aloe Vera Gel is excellent, for prickly heat and sunburn, I always take some on holiday, the organic one is best.
