Removing a telephone extension from the master socker

I have a telephone extension in the kitchen which no longer works, and as we don't have much need for this extension anymore I want to remove it.

I've looked in the master socket and see there are three wires in the socket, leading onto the extension wire (red, white and blue). Is it just a case of yanking out these wires, or is it not as simple as this? I don't want to take them out and have no phone at all anywhere in the house!

Thanks for any help :)

Yes it is as simple as that.
Although I would not do any 'yanking'.............

Yes just remove the wires from the back of the removable face plate.

Thanks for the help guys, socket removed without any hassle - and yank-free too (figure of speech, wasn't really going to do any yanking) :)

Note that doing this will disconnect all of your extensions.

As a bonus, it will probably speed up your internet connection (assuming you have ADSL). Got an extra 2mb doing that at our place, but then most of the wiring and plumbing here seems to have been done by a muppet.

We only had one extension anyway so that's alright. Would be nice to see an increase in broadband speed so will have to check if there's been any improvement - anything close to a 2mb increase would be great!

Mine was an extreme case. The wiring job was shockingly bad, and was running alongside (and in some cases cable tied to) a bunch of mains cables!

Most folk wont see an extra 2MB from it.

Oh right I see - ours wasn't that bad so guess we won't be getting such an increase! Definitely didn't have any tied to mains cables :)
