Gas meter safety check – who is responsible?

Good afternoon all.

I’ve received a letter for my energy provider saying that theyneed to carry out a safety inspection on my gas meter. The meters for both gasand electric are in my basement/cellar. You obviously need access to the propertyto access the basement.
I live in a rented property. My landlord does not live toolocal.

In order to allow this check to take place I would have totake time off work, which I’m presently unable to do (lack of holidays). Myquestion is, as a rented tenant, is this my responsibility, or does this laywith the landlord?
Many thanks

B

Its yours as your the householder
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

And you don't need to take time of work either unless you work 24/7/365

I think they will arrange a meter reading between 7 or 8am and 8 or 9 pm or even Saturday mornings if you ask. Surely you don't work all those hours?

This will be just a yearly meter check on the basic workings of the meters only. We dont have any gas safe knowledge, or carry leak detecting equipment. The suppliers are obliged to do a meter check every 2 years, British Gas try and do yearly checks. Customer verification of readings and meter bypass checks are also covered in our yearly vists. I have found 3 bypasses this week alone, all long term ones of over a year old, so these checks need to be done, and as Chan4 says, the responsibilty falls onto the homeowner to provide access. Its for you to get the key from the landlord. We work Saturdays at G4S and late evenings also up to 8 pm on yearly inspections. You can also make an appointment to suit you
