AA Vs Tesco Credit Card

Hey guys,

Just wondering what card you guys feel offer the best in terms of rewards. I'm stuck and can't decide.

Basically, i applied for a tesco card and was rejected. Checking my files and all ok so wrote to them stating i was confused and asked them to look into it. I hear nothing for a few weeks so went only and applied for a AA card. This was an instance acceptance and my card and pill will arrive shortly.

Anyway today i get a letter from tesco with a pin number for a credit card (that i thought was declined)

Now i dont want the two... hmmm choices choices.

This is something that it would probably be better for you to work out before applying the cards. The webpages of each card give details of how you can earn points, and how you can spend them - so if you work this out, you can work out what is the best for you:
    https://www.theaa.com/credit-card/rewards-credit-card.jsp?mc=def&name=null&entry=null#tabview=tab2
    https://www.tescobank.com/creditcards/index.html
Although a deeper question is why don't you want the two? You've got them now, and both offer 0% on purchases for several months, taking advantage of this and just making the minimum payment (whilst keeping the money to pay it off in a savings account) will give you a profit.

I would keep both, use the Tesco card as a Clubcard only for fuel purchases (1 point per £1) and pay with the AA card.

Also, earn yourself 1000 Clubcard points on the Tesco card (you submit the recommendation form after the new creditcard account is opened).
If you need a recommedation, pm me

I'd keep both as they both offer you an incentive. Plus, the marks are already on your credit report.

For example, spreading your purchases between the two and setting up 2 DDs will be useful for a Halifax Reward account, getting you another £5/month. If there is a promotional period you can make even more money by asking for just minimum payment and putting the money your spending in a interest current account instead like TSB, BoS, or Santander.

thanks guys. I might do that.

scrounger ill PM before when the card arrives ;-)

I originally applied for the tesco card as i shop there and already use a club card. I did this without really looking into other reward cards. I already have a barclaycard simplicity (the 7.9 rate one) as my daily card. I have a virgin on 0% with 2k owing (have the cash in a saving account ready for july)

I speand about 1200 a month on my barcaly card and originally thought the extra tesco points would be a good idea. But the card was rejected. I wrote asking why and starting looking into other reward cards and opted for the AA after hearing nothing from tesco for a few weeks.

I'm now in a funny position of having 4 credit cards and no debt on either (well 2k on virgin but could be clearly at any time)

Having looked more into it, if i use the AA reward points for my break down etc they are worth more. But tesco also do xmad double vouchers.... ahhhhhh lol

either way. Virgin will be cancelled in july and im keeping the barcalycard due to low rate. So... at some point either the AA or Tesco card must go.

I used to have over 50 credit cards, now down to about 25!

Some time soon you want to add an Aqua Reward for the free £100 per annum.

Also consider switching to the RAC using Tesco Clubcard deals (last year we paid only about £40 for Joint Roadside, Recovery + Onward Travel - any vehicle).

This is why I suggested working things out. For each card, work out how many points you get when you spend £100. Then work out how much the aa/tesco points are worth to you. Multiply. You now have your effective cashback rate.

Make sure the rewards are valuable for you as well. Don't spend them on shopping as you'll basically get a 0.25% cashback rate. Spend them on Tesco rewards which can be upto 4 times the value and so basically give you 1% cashback rate. I was changing 250 points into a £10 voucher for the hungry horse. Single referral = 4 free steaks and no washing up :)

Yes, that's right; and about £70k @ 0% on BT's (no handling fees back then ).
These days I don't bother much with Balance Transfers but it was good while it lasted.
