Will they refund me? I made a mistake with my account number

Hi, I paid December's Debenham's card balance in full by cheque. It didn't show up on my statement and I was told when I called they hadn't received the cheque. I paid again, this time by card, in full and closed the account. The amount in question was £58 and of course I wasn't happy about interest being added and that I would have a record of missing a payment.
My bank says funds went out of my account 4 days after I wrote the cheque, but a copy of the cheque sent to me by my bank shows I missed a digit off my account number in my payment.
As this was accompanied by a payslip with the correct details and I have an unusual name, I'm surprised my mistake hasn't been picked up on/ rectified.
Do you think they will give me my money back or say 'tough it's your fault'? I'm planning to write with copy of cheque ASAP, I was intending to ask for refund of original sum and interest and to request that my details are amended to say I didn't miss a payment.
Thanks so much for reading. I have since closed my other store cards and opened a cash back card with a direct debit to pay off in full each month so lessons have been learned.

You WILL get your £58 back...obviously!
You MIGHT get the interest back.
You MIGHT get the late payment marker removed from your credit file (although I doubt it).
Weren't you also charged a £12 late payment fee? If so you MIGHT get that back.0 -
Thanks YorkshireBoy, I'm liking your use of the word 'obviously' -- I'm suffering a little with anxiety at the moment and am over thinking what must seem the most trivial things. Thank you. There wasn't a late payment fee as far as I'm aware.0

Just to add, your £58 will be in a Suspense Account and should be traceable. Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Thank you F&NC, that's very helpful to know.0

They might say that you were responsible for filling in the cheque correctly, but they might refund on the basis of a goodwill payment, more so if you have never had charges refunded before.
The £58 you will of course get back eventually.0 -
I'm not entirely sure where the money will be at the moment but I suspect it will be in a Debenhams Collection account where it will be unreconciled as it won't be possible to apply it to anybody's card account due to the missing number. I'm pretty sure if you write to Debehams you'll get the £58 back, whether you can also get charges refunded is another matter, although it would be nice to hear how you get on.0

Hi, thank you again for the replies. I had been intending to write with a copy of my cheque. However, I received a letter today in response to me already raising this on the phone some days ago, to say the amount had been credited to my account.
I called and requested it to be refunded to my bank as I have closed the account, I also asked for the interest added to be refunded and there was no problem. I was also assured my credit rating wouldn't be affected as it wasn't my fault.
So a good result all round, thanks for listening, who knows perhaps this may prove a useful point of reference for someone else.0 -
