Who said anything about weekend bills. I said bills, they are more than that, but in any event, this thread is not about my personal finances or how I spend money, it is about Cash Finance Direct and their premium rate telephone scam.

    You did...

It is Friday night, I overspent, I needed a small amount of cash for the weekend, just £200.
£200 does not go far with kids and bills my friend, but thanks for the comment and reading my post.:D

You have almost certainly been charged a broker fee of around £69 if you're lucky. We know you've been charged £22 for the telephone call and you say you see no sign of the £200 requested.

This little exercise has almost certainly cost you a lot more than you bargained for, not just in money, but also in time, effort, nervous energy and security. You now have (assuming you get the money) a PDL mark on your credit file which may have a detrimental knock on effect in your life for the next 6 years. I dont know whether you are aware, but many mainstream lenders including banks view a PDL on your credit reference as a black mark and this automatically excludes you from any legitimate borrowing in future.

Obviously, you are living outside of your means and this can only get worse, believe me. If you come over to the debt free wannabe board, I'm sure we can offer some more constructive advice to get you into a position where this sort of situation never need arise again.

Take this as a serious wake-up call. You may well have got off lightly with only being charged £100 more than your bargained for initially (not counting extortionate interest which is bound to follow). Next time, when you're more desperate, you might not be so lucky.

  • It's such a shame company's like this exist and that people are lured in too easily.
Not proud to say i have used many reputable loan companies and thankfully haven't been screwed over too much.
But yet again another friend has been charged over £140 for just a phone call to this 'Cash Finance Direct' . Supposedly able to refund call if you write to:
    'Freepost cfd'

What kind of address is this. !?!
Thankful for replies to this post about what company name they trade in 'Horizon Finance' .

Please please people, if you need loans be soooo careful. Use trusted sites, Here, n moneysupermarket. If they say NO. The answer is NO. No matter who offers what.
In crisis try a crisis loan from job centre/dwp . Even if you are working, in some circumstances they can help.

    Welcome to the forums.

Not many newbie posts I agree with but this 1 I do, this poster is talking sense.

Why not ask your telephone provider to bar premium rate phone calls from your phone, and then you won't be tempted to fall into the same trap again in the future.

Was the fee of £69 not mentioned before you entered your card details ?

Write to them requesting a refund and stop looking for loans, if your scraping the bottom of the barrel you must be desperate, look at your spending and cut back.
  • With reference to the strange address of FREEPOST CFD. It is legitimate.

A friend of mine sent off her telephone bill to CFD about 18 months ago
and she received a full refund (not minus £5) by cheque about 17 days later.

This scam has been going on for years and it's still the same people.

Do a Google search for Mark Pickston horizon daily mirror and you'll find articles going back years to the late 90's and lots since then.

They basically charge you a load of money to listen to someone reading the Citizens Advice website on debt. Very nice. Does someone in debt really need a £40 phone bill?

Mark Pickston is the divorced husband of Ampika Pickston, one of the "stars" of The Real Housewives of Cheshire reality TV show on ITV BE.

If you haven't seen it, get it on catch up and have a look at the creep first hand and his wife's luxurious home in Brooks Drive, Hale Barnes, Cheshire.

My phone was used (unauthorised) to contact CFD or one of its other incarnation. Have been promised a refund of my phone bill within 45 working days i.e. 9 weeks to get my money back 😒
