Cash Finance Direct con

Options
Last night I made an online application for a small loan. ( spent too much at Xmas, my fault).

I did this on paydayloans website with an URL of memcapital.com A little confusing.

Anyway, it said online that I was approved and the money would be in my ac!!!! within 2 hours, this was 4.30pm. Ok I thought.

Then I got a text asking my to Call Emma on 0115 8242559 saying good news about my loan.

I called it and asked for Emma, quoting the reference number in the text. A rather rude man said Emma was not there and he would deal with it. They call themselves, Cash Finance Direct.

He started asking me for my details, which I had already put into the website. I asked about this and he said the computers were down and nothing had come through.

I gave the details again and he said, right I will just get this approved. I said it was already approved, I was looking at the screen on my computer. He said not and got really shirty, asking, "Do you want it or not ?"

It is Friday night, I overspent, I needed a small amount of cash for the weekend, just £200.

He then said, yes, it is approved, now just phone our approvals dept on an 0906 number and they will process the payment.

I phoned this number and was told the call would cost £22, but I would get this back if I sent my bill in.

I was concerned by this and asked what is going on. Again, this was met with contempt and I was told the call would end now or I could carry on with my application and "Do you want £200 in your bank today or not ?"

Normally, this kind of rudeness would be met with a sharp click of my slamming my phone down.

I was assured I would be refunded the cost of the call, and asked for my details once again.

I said that I had been told that I had the loan, online, by text and the last phone calls. Rude lady said no, you have to apply and we are a broker who gets the money.

In for a penny in for a pound I was did it again only to be cut short and told that the call would automatically end and it cut off.

So, I have no £200, but I do have a charge of £22 on my next bill and a search of the internet reveals many have succumbed to this can and dont get their loan or refund on their phone bill.

How can this clear fraud be allowed to happen ?

I am not normally green, but have never really needed a short term loan like this, so was sucked in and spat out of a slick oiled con.

God I feel stupid, so hope no one else falls for this.

I just can't believe the rudeness of the people on the phone. I am so upset that I just called them again and told them that I was posting this and they just got even ruder saying they have been on Panorama and they are not scammers, the customers never apply for their money back. The fact that they have been on Panorama suggests something is amiss.

I have the texts from these people and they are misleading. They now admit that they are the broker and not a lender and that nothing was approved. Some back tracking going on.

God what an idiot I am.

Like I say, hope you don't get scammed like this.

Yes I did, I think I will call my bank and cancel my card, its too risky not too from what I am reading.

A friend told me about this site, I think I might start using it as a reference in future.

I am normally fairly streetwise, but boy have I been suckered.:(

Are you sure that you didn't apply or enter your details on any other sites before you got to MEM Capital?

MEM Capital (or PaydayUK as they trade) are a lender, not a broker, so I am surprised that you got a call back referring you to another firm.

Did you receive any emails from PayDayUK?

I only used the one site. I have the screen shot in front of my and I definitely did not tick that they could use my info, which is why I called the number in the text, because I thought it was the same company.

These people are slick, until you question them, then they get nasty. Call that number above, question their honesty and see how nasty they get.

    Clearly well experienced.

Sorry, forgot to reply to the last question.

I got an email from PaydayUK about an hour later saying the funds would be in my account later, but to call them. I did and they confirmed everything, but no money until Monday, when I dont need it.

I asked them about Cash Finance Direct, and they said they did not give them my details.

It's all a bit scarey really.

If you are 100% certain that you haven't entered details on any other loan related sites and the site that you applied for the loan on was paydayuk.co.uk then I would get in touch with the company's data protection officer and detail what has happened and how shortly after applying on their site you got the phone call from 'Emma'.

You can get their details in point 18 of this page https://www.paydayuk.co.uk/privacy-policy/

    Hmmm, a bit confusing.

It appears you were called back by "Cash Finance Direct Limited, trading as Horizon Finance". There's some info at http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/01158242559.

IIRC they were on Watchdog a while ago.
