Payment break plan Barclays

 Can anyone help me? I have been trying to claim my payment break plan money back. Barclays say they have sent me 2 letters out to say they are not paying me out, i havent received either letter and its over 4 weeks. A guy told me on the phone yesterday they are not paying me out because i didt have it on my credit card. He himself told me to write to the Ombudsman if i didnt agree. The thing is i have statements with the PBP on???? How can they say i didnt have it? Do you think they are staling it or should i just go to the Ombudsman, iv heard it can take over a year if i do? Help!!!!!!!!

Who has told you that you can claim this back ? This forum is about claiming back PPI payments, payment break plans don't sound like payment protection to me.
  • It is the same thing Barclaystold me it is an American term for the same thing.
  • Hi...I recently got my Payment Break repaid by Barclays from an old Providian credit card.
Barclays have been very good...it took two letters and about 12 weeks and the money is in my bank!....I sent copies of the very old statements I had, by recorded delivery, to the Leicester address......have you tried this?

  • On my original card is was PPI when they transferred it to my new card it is payment break plan???
  • Thanks Times i will give that ago. First problem i had they got me mixed up with my husbands account??? Then i had to write back and correct it, then they say they have sent me two letters saying they are not refunding it, i have recieved neither, but a guy told me on the phone yesterday that i didnt have it on my cars and i have statements to prove it???? Think they are just delaying it?
  • I don't think they delay on purpose.....but when i've phoned they just don't seem to communicate with each other!

They sent me letters to say where they were with looking in to my claim and each one had a next date on by which time i heard from them again.

From what i've read it seems to take a year or more via the ombudsman......def try sending copies by recorded first....
    good luck this time!

PBP is not exactly the same as PPI; it's a similar product offered on some cards that Barclaycard took over, rather than offering a single insurance payout it simply provided a reprieve from having to make any payments, as such it's dealt with under an entirely different process. If it is showing on your statements then you need to send in copies of your statements to the Leicester address to demonstrate that you had it and paid for it.

It might also be helpful to check if the payment break plan contains any kind of insurance, if it is a plan that offers a suspension of interest and payments for a specified time rather than underwriting a risk, it may not fall under the jurisdiction of The Financial Ombudsman Service.
  • My husband took out a credit card in 2004 but because of the lack of work he had because he was self-employed he could not afford to continue with the payment on this which he went to Citizen Advice to try to find out, if their can reduce the payment. The advice worker from Citizen Advice took a budget calculation to find out of what was coming in the house. The advice worker advise to pay £1.00 month because of the lack of work my husband was in. Also I did not do any work because I find it difficulty in find work. My husband only took on a credit through a conversation on the phoned which there was no sign agreement which it was Barclay Card and there was no further information on PPI or even Payment Break Plan. Now about two days ago we complain to the PPI, if my husband had this with Barclay's but now the PPI company has cancel the PPI and Barclays has sent a letter to say "you have no PPI but you took Payment Break Plan with this policy. At the time my husband ask about this PPI which was inform you have no PPI on the credit card but now he has been told he has Payment Break Plan. Barclay's has offered him a refund of £426.96 but the debt is £23356.00 which is over 6 years ago. My husband has been paying £1.00 month but now he is not in work because he have to take semi-Retired because of ill health.
Can Barclay's now force my husband to pay the loan off because Barclay's have given him a refund because he is on Pension credit?
Will he needs to pay the income tax on the capital or interested and the other PPI Company which is cancelled?

Don't think being in receipt of pension credit wipes off your debts.
