I've packed my oh off for 10 days with lads and wondering if you have any practical help for me as I've broken my foot and can't get about much to fill my time. Dd is not always with me as at her dads too.
I have a food shop delivered in a couple of days, do you think if I ask nicely they will carry the box for me to unload to the kitchen, or just leave in the hallway?
I can get a bottle of water but any practical ways of getting a cuppa without a flask/drinking it over sink?
I can make pasta etc and put it in a cup with clingfilm over to carry to table to eat, wouldn't work with soup as too runny but any other ideas?
I thought of a pile of towels in bathroom so I don't have to carry/drag them about.
No neighbours/close friends nearby to pop in.
I am working so at work I'm ok, was more after ideas for at home.
Ooooo and cleaner starts next Friday.

Dont know about the other points, but certainly ask for the food shop to be carried out to the kitchen and left on work surface for you. I wouldnt think twice about asking for that, even though I've got to an age where I can no longer "bat my eyelids" and flirt.
I dont think most men mind requests like that one bit. Only the other day I had bought a huge can of paint (twice normal size) and got it into my shopping trolley okay, but knew it was too heavy to be able to get it up onto the bus I was going to catch home with it. No problem - I decided to look out for a male passenger waiting at the bus stop and ask him and he was quite happy to do so for me.
I've never yet had a man refuse a small request for a little bit of help with matters like that.0 -
Sounds like a mobility walker/trolley is what you need for your home stuff, one of those 3/4 wheeled jobs with the tray on top.0

The supermarkets say they will carry shopping to a room of your choice you don't need to degrade yourself by grovelling or flirting

put soup in a deep bowl .. or drinks in a big mug and half fill it. A plate of ordinary food should be fine.. I am sure you can carry any of it if you take it slow and a bit of practice.
Having hobbled around on crutches for months at a time the only problem I found was going up the stairs to pee!.. that nearly killed me.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
My mum found the hardest things were carrying things from room to room when she broke her food. In the end she moved the wheely chair from the study downstairs (with my sister's help) and then scooted between the kitchen and lounge on that with things on her knee when my sister wasn't around to help carry things.
Invest in a flask for warm drinks/soup, carry a bag you can sling across your body for the other things you might want to move with you (food in tupperware maybe?).0 -
I have the non weightbaring ones so couldn't carry a plate as my hand is on the bar, ha ha does that make sence...
Thank you so much for the shopping advice, I will defo ask the delivery person to carry to kitchen.
I have just thought too, I don't have a flask but I do have one of those costa cups with a lid, I'll hunt it out.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
The wheely chair is fantastic! And we have one for the computer too! I'll ask DD to move it downstairs. Thank you so much, I'd never have come up with that!Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

Can you put a kettle and microwave on the kitchen table, so that you can use them sitting down? You could fill the kettle using a bottle of water.0

Was your foot broken before you packed O/H off for ten days? Wasn't he worried about leaving you like this?0

Move the kettle so that it's where you want to drink your coffee. If that means that you have a kettle on a tray next to your sofa, then so be it.
Can you eat your main meal of the day at work? That means someone else can help you out, and you just need to worry about snacks meals.
Packed lunch box to carry things in, and do you have any plastic bowls? Almost any meal can be served in a plastic bowl, saves the risk of breaking it if you drop it.0 -

I broke it NYE, we thought we'd got round everything, but it was more the big problems we tackled - shopping/getting to and from work/cleaning.
However the wheely seat really sorts my main problems of moving stuff around so I think I'm now sorted.
Its amazing how someone mentioned something and I'm thinking 'of course, why didn't I think of that' ha ha.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
