any advice on painting my hall

Hall and stairs has panelled oak wood and I would like to change it to white oh sorry cream. I have sanded the wood and used dulux undercoat and satin wood paint but the paint keeps chipping off if the children happen to knock the wall. Any ideas. The panelling is lovely but the oak wood makes the hall very dark.

Should really have used a primer first, however all is not lost, sand the chipped bits so it is smooth, then apply a coat of multi surface primer (about £10 at B&Q) to all of the wood then 1 coat of undercoat, 2 coats of satinwood. Satinwood takes a couple of weeks to go rock hard so you will have your work cut out trying to keep the little darlings away from the painted surface. I am a P&Decor and have found that the M S Primer helps quite a bit.
