Car insurance query - help please
Options
hi
My hubby passed his driving test recently :T and we've bought a 2nd car. The 1st car was originally mine, and bought and insured in my name, with him as a named driver (but not on a policy that allowed him to build his own NCB). He will now have the 1st car, and I will have the new 2nd car. The 1st car is a 1.6 Astra, and the new one (mine) is a 4 year old 1.0 Corsa, so will be cheap to insure.
my question is ... do I insure both in my name primarily with him as a named driver, and do the Corsa with someone like Directline so he can earn his own NCB? or is that technically wrong to do, as I already have my own maximum NCB applied to the Astra? I've looked at changing the Astra insurance to him, and it's really expensive (he is in his 30's but a new driver), or do I put him as the primary Corsa driver? or just me on both?
I don't know the legal ins and outs of insurance, and don't want to ask a broker as they will, no doubt, push me down the more expensive route!
sorry it's long and rambling - can someone please advise?
thanks
Windy

ICBW but I think that (with most insurance companies) you would not be able to use your NCB again on a second car, but would have to start from scratch, maybe with a small discount. Also bear in mind that even if it is insured in your name you will probably be asked 'who is the main driver?' and the answer will affect the premium.
A good broker will not push you down the more expensive route.0
