Things that make no sense.

How do you resolve issues that make no practical sense in a real world. fpr instance i know of someone who makes out you are doing them a favour as it's nothing but it really puts you out.

    You say "No".

    You repeat "No".

You say "No" again, if you have to.

    And you keep saying "No".

It doesn't matter how many scenarios you come back with -

    - I can't say "No" because ....

    You can say "no".

    If you want to.

It's the only 'real-life' and 'practical' solution to the issue.
  • Just say no!

  • We're all a bit too polite sometimes! We're conditioned to say 'No problem' and 'you're welcome' when people ask/thank us for doing something for them when really the truth is that it is a massive hassle or hard work you could do without etc.

Rather than saying 'Yeah of course I'll help you out, it's no problem' maybe when we say yes we should be honest and say 'Yeah I'll help you out, it'll be a pain because of x/y/z but if you need a hand I'll help.'

And yes, some people need to learn to say 'no' more too, particularly if people around them are taking advantage, but I don't think just saying no is the answer because sometimes we all need a bit of help and if we all say no all the time then life would be rubbish!
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

My SIL is a bank manager and is used to telling people what to do all day. What really annoys me is that she brings her behaviour home asking people to do this or that. She'll push a tenner at you and say "pop to the bar and get me a drink" All done politely with a smile but an order non the less. This one I occasionally do but I always get myself a drink at her expense and then make sure she knows I've taken payment for services rendered.

If we're out and someone's late, by late I mean 5 minutes!, she'll say "ring <insert name> and find out where they are"

I just look at her and say "if you want to know, you ring" or "you have obviously forgotten you're not at work and mistake me for a minion, do it yourself"
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.

I say to my children "Which bit of the NO do you mot understand the N or the O?" It makes them stop and think ...and then ask again!!
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.
  • To say No is absolutely the right thing to say. There was another issue of money lending that was becoming a problem. Another relative said no to them. There were sparks after that but they haven't asked for any money from anyone. So I suppose put up with a few sparks after the event but in the long term it is finished and behind you.
