How do you know if its actually them or some one set up pretending to be them on face book or Twitter?
or a representative of theirs instead of the actual person leaving messages themselves?

You probably don't, but do you really care...?0
-
Well this one's amusing https://twitter.com/CherylKerlPosts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

The latter question is next to impossible to know.
As for the first, look for the twitter name on the celeb's official website, or if they are a tv personality etc they often give it in their show etc.0 -
Quite often they will say official, but this isn't a real sign. Best bet is to find their own site and see if there are links on there. Google can help, as can the numbers of likes (for facebook) but again this isn't always the case.
Generally I follow through from official, real, proper sites.0 -
On twitter they can be verified by Twitter and thave a blue tick after their name.
This does not mean that they cannot get members of their staff to post for them0 -
No true top celeb leaves their own messages.
The "celebs" are themselves products of the PR or management agency that runs them and issues statement purporting to come from the celeb themselves.
Celebs are no longer in control of their own lives in this respect, they are used by the 'industry' to further the industry's aims.
For example when in the UK they will issue a statement about they like some aspect of the UK/its culture etc which is carefully calibrated by the PR team to appeal to their target audience. This makes the target group "identify" with the celeb and buy whatever they are marketing - often not obviously. It's all total rubbish of course the said celeb has probably never tasted the UK food dish for example that they claim to love eating in the UK.
I would not be suprised if A-listers pr agencies have staff prowling blogs and making positive contributions to forums wherever anything bad is said about their product - sorry I mean celeb.
All supposedly natural TV interviews would probably be extremely tightly controlled by the PR team with question strictly vetted but such is the skill of the celeb (which I admire) they manage to make it appear as a casual conversation.
Its not just celebs in pop etc culture that have to do this (it's work for them) it can be diplomats and the wifes' forced to live in some shithole country while telling us how they love the culture/food/wine/cities....yeah yeah like we believe you!0 -
Well the above may be true for some select people, but 'real' celebs do update their own statuses as well. It's proved by all those stupid comments they all seem to make! Ones they regret usually! Of course when it comes to marketing, their PR will probably access their Twitter and update on their behalf.
But then what you class as a real celeb? Is Ricky Gervais a real celeb cause he's always commenting on Twitter, and it's not his PR!0 -
Lord Sugar and Piers Morgan and their endless sniping, are mostly really tweeting except when LS is promoting YouView, StyleFile Amscreen and the like. So is Sephen Fry who is about to be on Danny Baker 5 (@prodnose) live showThat gum you like is coming back in style.0
