From The Oldie newsletter of 01/02. One entry per household.
Ian Lavender will lead an all-star cast of Savoyards performing a semi-staged concert production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic comic opera. The Mikado, the most popular Gilbert and Sullivan opera written, has continued to delight audiences since its record-breaking opening run. It was over a century ago when Gilbert was first inspired to transport topsy-turvy mid-Victorian values to the town of Titipu and a backdrop of oriental Japan. The Mikado, with its opportunity for topical jokes, is a hilarious story poking delicious fun at the politicians and politics of the day with songs such as ‘The Sun, Whose Rays Are All Ablaze’; ‘A Wand'ring Minstrel, I’; ‘I’ve Got A Little List’ and ‘Three Little Maids From School Are We’.
The winner will win a pair of tickets to one of these three performance dates:
10th March at 3:00pm, Symphony Hall, Birmingham
16th March at 7:30pm, Royal Festival Hall, London
17th March at 3:00pm, The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
