Apologies if this isnt the correct board to post on for this but my partner and I have split and he has left the Sky+ box and sat receiver etc. in the house where I am staying. I dont want to pay for the Sky package because I dont watch that much television but I understand that I may be able to buy a card and use the box to pick up freeview channels. Is this correct and what do I need?
Thanks in advance!

If you already have a Sky card - it should revert to freesat when Sky deactivate it0

mcfisco is correct.
You will lose the sky+ recording functions and will not be able to watch the encrypted recordings already on your sky+ when sky deactivate your subscription.

From the site I linked, under the Q&A section:
"I already have digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to get access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a freesat viewing card which costs just £20."

Well they would say that wouldn't they?
If the question had been "I already have digital satellite equipment & a cancelled Sky card - what else do I need?
They would have had to come clean, but they're trying to sell you something - they aren't going to volunteer info regarding what Sky do.0 -
Ah, ok, I presumed that you would need a Freesat card to get all the channels, but it does look like any Sky card would do the job.

This article probably describes it better than I can0

Hi guys, just thought i'd put this out for your considered opinions, just got off the phone from Sky to cancel my subsription
(already a Virgin media phone and broadband user and Virgin offered me thier large Tv package for £1 a month, so i'd be stupid to turn that down when I pay sky 40 odd quid)
Anyway as a part of the sales pitch from sky I was asked why go to Virgin and I answered that I use the Sky+ plus facilities of pause, rewind, record etc far more often than the channels listings my package offered but if I dropped my package I loose the Sky+ facilities or pay £10 for them back.
The Guy at sky informed me that the Sky+ facilities (pause rewind record etc) are going to be free from July 1st
Sorry to blab on but just wanted to give somebackground to the issue.
My question is, since i'm going to move my Sky box tomy bedroom and take advantage of freesat, will the Sky+ pause rewind record facility work on freesat from July 1st. Just wondered if we had any sky insiders here that might know
