Important...check your meter!!

I discovered this week after getting my winter bill that I have been being charged as if I had an imperial meter when I actually have a metric for 9months! We moved house and thought our gas bills were a bit high but checked the readings etc and thought it must just be moving into a bigger house. When my winter bill came in at £400 for gas for 3 months I decided to look into it again (customer service team were useless - just said it was because it was winter).
Anyway having worked out they were using imperial units (basically multiplying our gas use by 2.83) I am due £123 refund from one gas company and £240 off this bill from the one we recently switched to.
Only takes a second, and definitely worth checking....turns out our neighbour has had the same thing happen as well! I wonder how many people this is happening to?
PS: Apologies for the spelling mistake in the title, can't work out how to change it!
