Wiring / activating extension socket

We have a master socket active in the house but it's in a crap place for ADSL wireless signal. So I'm trying to DiY get an extension socket wired in, but the master socket doesn't look the same as others I've seen posted.

Basically it seems there are 3 cables coming into the master socket and all of them are connected.

The extensions that I've opened up seem to have all the wires connected (6 wires) but none of them give a dial tone. Bit of a mystery to me but then I'm a total wiring noob!

Any tips or advice much appreciated. I attach a photo of the master socket below.

Dammit as a new user I can't post photo link properly! It's below if you add the http://

the blue and white wire going into the two prongs labeled a and b are the line. the wire in the detachabke part of the faceplate shoukd go to an extension
  • That sounds right but I'm confused - there are three extension points around the flat but NONE of them give a dial tone! Is there anything I can do to get this working?

Its hard to explain. The prongs on the detachable bit are leg A then the middle one is ringerwire and then leg B.

So, if you put white/blue on the one side, orage and the middle and Blue on the last prong then do the same for the others that should give you dial tone when you slide the detachable part back in.
  • What wires are connected across 2 and 5 in the extensions? It should be the blue and blue/white, no other wires need to be connected. In one place where a builder had connected the extensions using all the wires the broadband did not work until we had pulled all the other wires from the extensions.

  • All the wires are connected in the extension. But did you get a dial tone? We get nothing in any of the sockets! :?
  • I know you said all the wires are connected in the extension, but need to know specifically which ones are connected across 2 and 5 (the numbers should be beside the pins, if not it should be the middle pins). It should be the blue and the blue/white connected to those pins. We did get a dial tone with all wires connected, but the right ones were on the right pins.
