URG HELP Please! Computer Overtaken by Prevx Pro 2005

My day is going from bad to worse. Had comp. crashing probs this morning that has disappeared. Now when i turn my computer on I get the following

a, a blue/black box titled Prevx Pro 2005 with content that reads: The prevx agent is not running. do you wnat to start it now? BUT there is no 'yes/no' box and when i click on the 'x' in the top right corner to close it down the box multiplies until i have a whole scrren of them.

b, Another box comes up on screen stating that the computer need to close down and with only one option given which is a 'close' button.

When i mover my cursor over to the 'start' tab it turns into the 'eggtimer' and won't let me click to open my settings etc.

I have tried the following

a, close down and reboot in safe mode - then tried removing Prevx Pro from programmes but it won't let me as im in safe mode

b, opening up add/remove progs in normal mode and removing prevx but i tell me that the programme is running and i need to close it first! But i can't find any icons left (i deleted the desk top icon earlier in the day as it kept promting me to sign up after a free trial period) for it on my desk top or anywhre else.

Please Note: Prevx Pro is a free security programme for computer protection of some kind that i downloaded a while ago - as it was recommended on this forum. The free trial period ran out and i 'thought' i had removed the programme by deleting from my desktop earlier today.

Sorry for the length of this e-mail but this is causing me major headaches!

Also I have tried running Search and destroy, Mcaffe virus scan etc and have remosved everything highlighted. One of the virus's was Virtual Bouncer .

many many thanks for any help with this.

cheers

if you are running Xp then you need to boot in safe mode and run your anti virus and spyware programs from there

go to control panel , internet options and delete temporary internet files first

    this may help

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310353

To help troubleshoot error messages or other issues when you cannot determine the cause of the issue, disable common startup programs, settings, and drivers to eliminate possible software conflicts when you start Microsoft Windows XP. This procedure is known as "clean booting." This article describes how to perform a clean boot, how to start the Windows Installer service, and how to restore your system from a clean boot state.

Note After you follow the instructions for a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. If you restore the settings, you restore the functionality, but you may receive the original error message or experience the problematic behavior.

If the program is still said to be running right click just above the time in the bottom right hand corner, select task manager and close it down in either applications or processes. You should then be able to remove using Add/Remove progs. Deleting from the desktop only removes the icon.
If running your scanners as instructed does not remove the problem you may well have to turn off system restore, run your scans again as the little b****r might be in the restore section, if it clears it reinstate system restore.
Any further probs may need you to download Hijack this and run a scan. Save this bit until you have done the rest.

You said in your first post "one of the viruses was...". What else did you have? This is Symantec Security Response info re Virtual Bounce. If you say what else you had we could provide links for removal.

Many thanks everyone - Finally managed to get the problem sorted using browntoa's (top man/lady?!) advice and doing the clean re-boot from safe mode and then restarting and removed the prevx file from programmes and also unchecked enable third party browser extensions in my internet options (this was to remove the win exp. 'windows must close box'.

    What a mission!

But due to everyone's kind help seem to have it sorted now.

    MANY THANKS TO ALL
