Daughter leaving Brownies - ideas for a leaving present??

Hi,

My daughter is due to leave Brownies after 3.5 wonderful years.

She has thoroughly enjoyed herself and wants to give a present when she leaves.

I feel this should be something to benefit the whole pack, (she'll give thank you cards to all the leaders as well).

Does anyone have any ideas? Budget - about £20.

Many thanks.

  • Ask Brown Owl maybe - there may be things they are short of or funds they require something towards?

Megela, glad to hear your daughter has had a very positive experience ( there are some who don't and many who forget we are volunteers). As a BrownOwl myself a card for each member of the team would be very appreciated.

Is she moving up to Guides?

We usually have a party when our "oaps" graduate up so cake and pop are on the go anyway.

As brown owl we always appreciate craft items, anything that comes in handy for badge work or the holy grail - colouring in pens!
I'd ask if there's anything the unit need for upcoming badge work and go from there. I've got loads of thank you cards from my grown up brownies and they are lovely to keep - make sure there's something personal in them such as a memory of their promise/camp/special achievement as those are the nicest to look back at.

Err no - she's 'moving over to the dark side' as her Brown Owl puts it (Scouts).

Would prefer not to ask Brown Owl want they need as I wanted it to be a surprise - although at least they would get something needed.

    Appreciate everyones thoughts on this.

I think I'd be baking a stack of chocolate brownies...
  • I'd say craft supplies :-)
  • I'm a cub leader, and I can second the thought that cards will be appreciated by the leaders - yes we are all volunteers -we really do it for the love of it!!

Things that we are always short of are glue sticks and safety scissors, as well as felt tips. Other ideas, bean bags/tennis balls/soft (foam) footballs, all of which seem to disappear without a trace.

Alternatively, a gift card for sainsbugs/Mr T's corner shop etc would be useful for buying supplies for cooking nights etc

  • oh, and in our group we get a lot of Brownies who come to Scouts, as they prefer the 'outdoorsy' stuff we do ....I was a Guide though, and enjoyed it a lot!

  • As a Rainbow leader and a Brown Owl, I agree that a card to each adult would be appreciated, perhaps with a card for the unit as a whole (especially if there is a notice board where it can be displayed). If your daughter wants to, a home made card shows thought and effort.

As for something for the unit, felt tip pens are always welcome. We use Berol, as they are decent quality and last a long time.

Multi use pens for decorating a variety of surfaces are also a good idea. They can be quite expensive for units to buy, so many don't have them. I recently discovered these, though, which are less expensive but still good quality:

Good quality gluesticks are usually appreciated. I prefer UHU to Pritt Sticks, but would be pleased to receive either.

The Range are currently selling some craft supplies quite cheaply - 100 extra long pipecleaners (very fluffy type) for £3.99, various sets of self adhesive foam shapes for £2.99, googly eyes (750 for £2.99).

How about a laminator if the unit doesn't have one? Or a paper cutter? Both are useful for all sorts of things.

Tesco sometimes sell a parachute for about a tenner. It isn't a big one, but is handy for smaller units - we have two, as well as a large parachute.

I'm thinking of buying clipboards for my unit, as there are many times I wish we had them.

Cooking equipment, sand timers, sports equipment, magnifying glasses, set of mini drawers for storage (if they have the space), or voucher for printing photos?

Guiding Essentials is the official Guiding shop - there might be something suitable there:

It's great that your daughter has had a good experience in Brownies - that's what leaders aim for! I hope she enjoys Scouting just as much.
