Direct Line playing games on claim?

My OH was recently involved in a minor prang with another car, no major damage. They stopped and exchanged insurance details - we are with LV and they are with Direct Line. OH followed up confirming details with other party by email. Next day (incident was in the evening), OH reported it to LV. We have an accident number and have had several communications with LV since then both verbally and in writing. They said they would let us know as soon as any claim arrived from DL.

So OH surprised this morning to get a letter this morning from DL, saying they had been unable to contact LV about the incident and reminding him of his legal obligations to report it to his insurers.

Anyone know what is going on here? Is this insurance company gamesmanship?

Nothing sinister going on, probably just a case of miss-communication. Contact LV and tell them about your letter and leave it to them. I'm assuming your OH was at fault?
  • You have a duty to pass on any comunication to LV, make a copy and send them the letter.

Was planning to do that anyway. But what is curious about the DL letter is it does not ask us to forward letter, just says it has been unable to "speak with" LV and reminds us of our duty to report the claim. LV has full details and already waiting to hear from DL, or so they tell us.
  • DL has probably not been able to get of of your OH claims handler for some reason.

call LV tell them you have this letter and that its a matter of urgency they contact DL and start the communication process.
