Contents insurance for unoccupied house

Does anyone know of firms who will insure contents in an unoccupied house?

My friends mother has died and her house and contents are now uninsured.
House will be unoccupied for several months whilst they sort it out - they live three doors away and go in every day to check it- their present insurers did not want to know!! What can they do - any ideas will be gratefully received
Thank you

Sorry to hear of your friend's loss.

Insurers REALLY don't like insuring unoccupied property for contents cover!
Have you contacted a broker to see if anyone will cover it? - it might be a long shot but worth a try.

Please make sure that your friend checks with her insurer regarding any EXCLUSIONS that may have been added to the policy to during the unoccupancy period - which was only 6 months with the insurer where I worked .... (unless they had a mortgage interest in the home - then it could be extended at their discretion! )

EXCLUSIONS often require that the water be turned off at the mains and certain risks will not be covered - usually like accidental damage to the home.

It really pays to check this out - ask for a revised copy of the policy document or a letter confirming the level of cover they will provide.

    Regards

Exclusions are general stuff that applies to every one, you are on about policy endorsments ;)

They will cover your contents if you put into a secure storage depot.
