New employee - was I misled or is this entirely my fault?

    This! We are currently charging the company a monthly rent for holding the cartridges as one of our employees did this accidently.

    Its very childish but satisfying sending them an updated invoice each time they threaten us for not paying their con :D

    OP - don't beat yourself up over this. You trusted the caller was acting in good faith and it's very sad that there are people like that out there ready to scam us. Learning a new job is never easy and always stressful and it's just one of those bits of knowledge you pick up along the way. If a similar caller rings again you will be able to handle it now you know what they are up to.

    Its a scam really and it clearly works on lots of people, not just you. It's been going for years.

    I went for a job in Camden when I was a naive student. I wasn't stupid enought to miss the fact that 'customers' were being lied to/conned in various ways in order to boost business. It was fax rolls then. I didn't take the job.
