Hi again folks

I've decided and have signed up to get gas installed. I'm going for a combi, live in a terrace in East Belfast, the installation is going to cost me £2,200 (-£400). I am now deciding which Gas supplier to go for. My choices are Airtricity or Firmus - any suggestions?

Does any know the pros and cons of each?

Hope to hear from you.

Thanks

  • You're going for a combi, have you had your water pressure and flow rate checked first?

Is the £2,200 for the supply pipe or for the whole central heating system?

    Hi

yes the plumber checked my water pressure by running the cold water tap in my kitchen which comes direct from the mains, and seemed happy with the pressure. I asked him if it was suitable for a combi and he seemed convinced that it was. The £2,200 is for the whole heating system. As I'm getting £400 back from Phoenix it will cost me £1800 altogether.

    Have I missed something possibly?

  • that is a very cheap price, post up the full quote inc make & model of boiler & we can advise you further
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

    Hi there

Below is the original quote until I changed my mind and go with the combi - quote needs to be amended to reflect combi installation instead of system boiler.
    QUOTATION

    Job Details:

Replace existing oil fired central heating boiler with A Rated Gas Boiler to include supply and fit of:

Worcester Bosch 24 i System Boiler
    Hot water only option
System flushed and inhibitor added on completion
Thermostatic valves fitted to existing radiators
    Pipework from Meter to Boiler

Removal of old boiler, oil tank etc if required

    Total Cost: £2030

Minus Phoenix Natural Gas Scrappage Allowance. £400

    Total payable by customer. £1630

    Thanks

Ah it's not for the complete heating system then, basically just a replacement boiler and removal of old.
I will let the experts comment on the price!
  • still doesn't sound a bad price, i can't see a room stat on that quote so unless you already have one then you must have one fitted & wherever it is (normally the hall) that rad mustn't have a trv fitted, also with regard to the combi (& the flow & pressure tests as per your other thread) i wouldn't go for anything less than a 28kw

    Hi

Can you clarify what a room stat and a trv are?

    Thanks

room stat = room thermostat. It's usually on the wall either in the hall or preferably the living room. It controls the overall desired ambient house temperature.

trv = Thermostatic Radiator Valve (as on your quotation highlighted in red by notbritishgas). Gives the ability to better control the heat in separate rooms e.g. a lower temperature in the bedrooms, assuming you keep the doors closed which doesn't seem the trend nowadays.

Cheers, I can confirm that these are included the quote.
