I have a rotten cold and am bunged up beyond belief! I have got some Vapour Rub stuff, which i was about to put into hot water and inhale, but noticed it went past its sell by date in Oct 06 - it looks ok, and smells ok, do you think it is ok to use?
Cheers

Yes It'll be fine. It just may not be as effective as it once was. It won't do you any harm.0

I'd use it.
I had a rotten cold a couple of years ago. My MIL put some menthol crystal's in some hot water for me to breath in the steam/vapor.
After a couple of minutes of wiffing it up my now rapidly clearing nose I had a look at the bottle of crystals she'd used.
Expires Oct 1994. 11 years out of date
But as you can see I survived to tell the tale :rotfl:0 -
I did this a few years ago and had an allergic reaction. Have you inhaled this way before?
My face swelled so much my skin started to crack and bleed around my mouth - seriously no nice and sooooooo painful:eek:0 -
Last week I threw away a pot of snuffle babe (Similar to vapour rub but for little ones)
I bought it for my eldest son's first cold at a few weeks old.
He is now 25 !
It didn't have an expiry date on but all my subsequent children have survived !0 -
excellent thanks
shell - i have used it several times before, i never heard of anyone being allergic to it before.
i would do anything to get rid of this cold at the moment as i feel terrible.0 -
For food, I have what I call a "sniff by" date. This ought to work for vapour rub, although you might have to get someone else to check it for you, under the circumstances. Get well soon. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

My vet once told me that most medicines etc are ok after the best before dates, and also that you don't have to throw them away almost immediately after opening them. That, he said, was to make people waste stuff and buy more. He left soon after that.... Don't think the group that ran the surgery liked it.0

the only thing that's going to possibly be wrong with it is that it's not quite so effective anymore. won't do any harm0
-
sell by dates are different from use by dates as you don't consume it (yuck) it should be ok0

Our family used the same pot for about 20 years (which I think I still have in the cupboard somewhere) - I'd guess it'll be okay0
