Blocked Driveway
Hi there
I live across the road from a local Royal Mail sorting office in London. Every morning the red vans clog up the road while they load up for their routes.
The real problem is that they park across my driveway every day. I shouldn't let it get to me as I use public transport most days, but I get very annoyed on days when I am driving, that I effectively have to ask their permission to use my own car!
I have written a letter of complaint to Royal Mail, which stopped it for about 2 weeks before the status quo returned. Also spoken to the drivers and the manager of the depot, whose view is basically "but you don't use the car anyway".
Any suggestions?

Call the police, this is obstruction, and you have tried being nice, ( if there are yellow lines there, call the parking enforcement departrment, a few £30 tickets should do the trick), the following I had taken from our local force's website:-
Lancashire Constabulary - Frequently Asked Questions –
Someone has parked on the road outside my house blocking my driveway and I can't get in or out. What can I do?
The vehicle is causing an obstruction and so you should call your local police station. We will check whether the vehicle is stolen and an officer will be asked to attend.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

There is probably an exemption from the yellow lines for loading/unloading. Usually is.
Still worth getting police advice though.0 -

If the police wont attend for other more serious reports such as crimes etc, I doubt they will attend because someone doesnt want postman Pat to park across their drive when they dont need access ?
Call in or write to the postoffice or leave your car outside all day so someone can run into it, damage it and drive off. Did you not know it was a postal sorting office when you moved in, or has the parking problem suddenly appeared for some other reason ?
I know its frustrating, I have a mother and two tarts living across the road with a bunch of male dogs on heat visiting everynight, we often five cars outside a small semi, very annoying and with todays society and the not my fault culture, nothing I can do execpt take direct action, but now having to wait for dark nights, a;though I suppose with the police visiting your parking problem they might not attend a car fire :rolleyes:0 -

Well they do round my end, it used to happen to me , but when I called the police and gave them the registration they either phoned them and it was removed or they came round and got it removed, and how does any one know that they do not require access due to an emergency or whatever, it is an offence to obstruct, and whilst the police will probably not treat it as urgent they should attend as it is their job to uphold the law, also in the first instance of phoning the police you get through to a civilian, who after taking the registration will attempt to make contact with the owner of the vehicle by phone, only after unsuccessfully making contact, or if the car is not moved, would they send an officer, or at least that is my experience, and the next door neighbour is a police officer, although it is visitors that do the blocking.
The OP has already written to the Royal Mail.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

buy yourself a wheelclamp
http://www.parkingcontrol.co.uk/shop_clamps-and-removal.asp?gclid=CPStkKDh8YsCFQ8JEAodz18HPg
clamp the van on a day when you don't need the car and then go out for a few hours
or alternatively send a letter to that office (deliver it by hand , you know how bad the post is these days) saying that next time it happens you are getting a cab and billing them every time it happensEx forum ambassador
