This laptop has a built in webcam. I'm in audio classes where I need to use headphones and a mic - but when you enable the mic the webcam comes on. Is there a way I can switch the webcam off ?

For this post I'm assuming you're running Windows.
You can disable your webcam in Device Manager by going to the Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager (under Devices and Printers). You will need to be an administrator for this.
A window will appear with a list of all devices attached to your laptop. Expand "Imaging devices" and you should see your webcam. Right click it and chose Disable. Your webcam will not activate now, in fact it will be as if you don't have one.
To enable it again, right click the camera in Device Manager and choose Enable.
However, it may be the software that you are using. Check the settings or preferences within the application you use at your audio classes to see if there's an option to not use the camera.0 -
My sister is paranoid about being spied on through her web cam, she has a bit of black insulating tape on the lens.:rotfl:Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0

I would sandwidch something like ptfe tape or similar between the lense and the tape as some glues will eat or permanently adhere to the lense0 -
I've got insulating tape on it now but wil try the control panel - many thanks!0
