not since vista, but depends on the model

It's safe mode for Windows, irrespective of Windows version, XP, Vista or 7

see my previous posts, it's also used to factory restore.

  • Are you using Anti-Virus Software?
If you are not using Microsoft Security Essentials, I suggest you remove any Anti-Virus software and install MSE.

    Also, download and run CCleaner.

If that does not improve your PC performance, I suggest you find pro help.

My Laptop that I purchased about 6 months ago has started to run very slowly.

I have done all the usual - run a virus check - clear, - emptied the recycling bin and cache.

It has very little on the hard drive etc.

The only thing I can think it is that Microsoft build into operating systems to slow up after 6 months (as said on here recently).

    Why do they do this?

    How can I reverse it?

What advantage is it to them?

and there is a sticky thread on the subject above

half life idea is a myth

  • Lol. They don't build a half life into the OS. :P

Follow the link the poster above gave you and work through everything.

My W7 runs as fast as it did the day I got it but then I defrag my HDD, clear our redundant registry entries, remove unwanted apps, etc.
  • My Windows 7 computer is still pretty good, and it is 2.5 years old.

I do not often defrag it, it is not really necessary these days, I make sure I do not download anything unnecessary on it, have a simple AV on it (MSE) and keep it in a case to avoid dust ingress.

One thing I would suggest would be to do a system restore to when it was last working well, but before you do that run Malwarebites and your AV.

If the half life thing did exist this computer would now be unuseable, which it obviously is not, and it would force everyone to go to Apple so it would not be in Microsoft's best interests.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
