I read this ages ago and it put me off cheap supplements http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=38118550&postcount=5
I use Multibionta Vitality because they have added coenzyme 10 and probiotics which are good for energy.
Check on Amazon as I get them really cheap compared to high street stores.0 -
I take a multivitamin and a garlic capsule a day. I think it helps my immune system - I definately get less colds now."I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants." A. Whitney Brown0

Looking at the contents of that and all those bacteria are in a probiotic that I purchased and I am using to make yoghurt. XtraLac has Bacillus Coagulans, Enterococcus Faecium, Bacillus Subtilis, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Bulgaricus and Bifodobacterium Bifidum. Symprove only has Enterococcus Faecium, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Lactobacillus Acidophilus & Lactobacillus Rhamnosus. L. Rhamnosus I've used in the past to make yoghurt from Culturella capsules. That came out quite nice and tasted very pleasant.Hi thanks for the info, I never get colds either and I do think probiotics help lots of ailments no end. There is a new one which is said to reduce IBS called Symprove but I'm petty sure it could be used for anything even just general health, I would like to try it but bit expensive for me right now. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2150878/Drink-ease-IBS-misery-millions--2-stomach-treatment-available-shelves-near-you.html#ixzz21YFp87oD''
Yoghurt doesn't really taste like milk. The lactose is used up by the bacteria and so that shouldn't be a problem for most people. Maybe your a sterilized milk person rather than the pasturized milk that is so common. I grew up drinking stera milk and never liked pass milk. We had little bottles of pass milk at school and it made my stomach churn.I don't have much milk as I don't like the taste and drink rice milk not sure if you can use Soya instead of milk? I have considered getting an Easiyo before for all the family's health.
I did try to make water kefir for some time but not sure I was successful and went back to probiotic capsules and I have tried loads of makes but the one I saw a difference with is Biokult, it survives stomach acid which a lot don't.
But I had itchy and dry skin patches and ridged nails which have cleared up and I generally feel a lot better. Could be placebo like anything I suppose.
I have a healthy diet, not enough fruit but good balance everywhere else.
The thing about bacteria is, they reproduce! On a money savings forum, keeping spending money on capsules seems a waste of money to me. I prefer to make some yoghurt from a capsule and then keep culturing more yoghurt from the earlier batch. That can be done many times over. It only costs a tiny bit of electric and the cost of some milk, powered milk is very cheap, especially the Sainsburys basics powered milk at £1.01 for 400g.
I love the taste of it, although I do add some nutritional yeast which adds a bit of bite, which I like.:) For comparison, culturing a yoghurt from a capsule has taken between 16 to 24 hours to get to a set yoghurt, whereas using about half a jar of previous yoghurt as a starter takes about 2 to 3 hours. That goes to show how much stronger a jar of Yoghurt is over a capsule. Manufacturers like to make claims about their capsules in order to sell them. Saying they survive stomach acid, and I have read one claiming that they stronger than yoghurt which in my experience is total rubbish. How much yoghurt? a teaspoon? 1/4 of a teaspoon? lmao
The cost of a yoghurt maker soon pales into insignificance when so much is saved. The top shelf of my fridge is full up with pots of yoghurt. If I wasn't so restrained, the whole lot would disappear in one day.:o
I think I might invest in that yolife yoghurt maker spare parts version
Hopefully it will come in useful as a fermenter with the large lid. That is unless I can find something which works better at fermenting.
Then I can have two lots on the go at the same time.....even more yoghurt to eat. Yummy
Most of the American ones are available in the UK from different companies. Luxebc sells lots and so do many other companies that show on google.co.uk. Just search for the product your interested in and check who is selling it. The highest scoring one is Xtend-Life and that can be purchased in the UK. However, their premium men's product is over £40 for a 15 day supply:eek: Far too much for my budget..Evangeline1971 wrote: »I'm considering starting to take vitamins as I feel groggy a lot of the time and my diet is quite bad. I'm a bit dubious about how much truth is in it. What do you guys think? Solgar is the highest scoring one that is available in the uk but its very expensive
Centrum is the one I'm considering. Did you notice a difference Lilium when you started taking this?
Biocare products are fairly good but there are more comprehensive ones from other companies.
I never really thought that much of Solgar supplements. I have tried them in the past but as you say, they are expensive for what they are.0 -
I take an iron supplement and vitamin C.0

Supplements are unnecessary and a complete waste of money if you eat a healthy diet and don't have any underlying health problems which might prevent you absorbing nutrients from your food, including having undergone a gastric bypass operation.
Also, taking individual supplements can cause an imbalance in the body and also prevent other nutrients from being properly absorbed.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

^^^^ This is why you feel groggy! You don't need vitamins, you need to improve your diet

I don't regularly take vitamins, but in the winter I have these chocolate chews with calcium and Vitamin D in, because obviously there's less sunlight to help Vitamin D in the winter.
I also occasionally have a Berocca, especially if I'm super busy or hungover!0 -
Very likely. Apart from the air born nasties that people cough about, you are touching handles/dumbells etc handled by many people. It just takes one to have a dose of norovirus (or whatever) on their hands before they used the equipment then you come along and get it onto your hands.
I wear those fingerless leather gloves whilst there but still wash my hands well before I leave.
YES, some gym folk are DISGUSTING! I try not to touch my face/mouth and I'm constantly washing my hands. One of my gym buddies walk around with wipes and alcohol solution, lol!! The lengths we go to huh, lol!!
I've got a pair of those leather gloves but only use them for weights which I only do 3 x a week!0
