HELP! Sore red bumps after upper lip waxing!

My delightful 11 year old niece commented that I had a "moustache" while we were swimming and asked me if I had to shave it like a man :cool:. I can honestly say that I had never felt like I had a particularly hairy upper lip. I'm a brunette but there was no dark hair above my lip. Still......
I decided to be on the safe side and wax it using Nair Sensitive Wax Strips on Monday. It was very red but ok. The redness didn't die down, my Mum started asking why I had a Red Mustache
. It started to get itchy and bumpy. I applied Witch Hazel and Sudocrem. Its now Thursday and I have a mixture of tiny red bumps and whiteheads - its sore, red and itchy. What can I do? I'm desperate! Its making me so self conscious.
I have a prom next week and there is also a chance that I might be snogging someone in the next week
. I don't want to have to wear a Balaclava
.

I got lumps after the last lip wax. I sympathise! I got lumps under skin but no white heads. It was sore and took a few days to fade.
Don't irritate it more! Don't itch it etc - it'll get worse.
Ice bags and witch hazel - keep perfumed stuff away from it.
Hope it goes down. If not, use a powder based concealer to cover it on the night (but avoid makeup before).0 -
It's amazing how many women are walking about with hairy faces and seem oblivious to it.
Well done on dealing with yours.0 -

Ice, cold flannels, try and avoid hot drinks for a bit. Good luck!

Thing is...I actually don't think it was hairy! My mother is very good about letting me know about things like that and has been known to buy hair removal products for members of the family and close friends with hair sprouting out of places they shouldn't have it! Also I got bullied at school for just about everything and if I'd had a tache I would have definitely got bullied about that - there was a girl everyone called "Tache-girl".
I regret waxing my upper lip now because there was next to nothing on the strip and I've now got a hideous sore rash.
I think my niece was just being a little madam.0 -

The joys of childhood honesty, as brutal as it is!
Lesson here OP - don't ever do anything to yourself if you don't see a reason why. If you're happy, sod what anything else thinks. It's nice to be happy in own skin. Do only what you want to doIf your niece says anything again, take the opportunity to explain to her that how people look is how they look and is who they are etc. sounds cheesy but hey, it's the job of an aunt
Hope your rash fades in time.0 -
I had this at the weekend and also tried Sudocream and vaseline but my savior was Waitrose Bottom Butter (found in the baby toiletries aisle) overnight cleared it up and suffered a bit of dryness but used this at night and its now back to normal (phew).
Hope you get it sorted.0 -

Thanks so much but damn! My nearest Waitrose is around 20 miles away0 -
I have this issue too - if I don't wax, I'm self-conscious. If I do wax, I have about 12 hours grace between the redness fading and the spots appearing. And then I'm self-conscious again. If there's a special event coming up, I have to be very careful with the timing.
I find the following helps - wear no make-up on the day of the waxing. Make sure your skin is thoroughly clean (use make-up remover, then make sure it's well rinsed off, and dried with a clean towel/tissue). After waxing, DO NOT TOUCH, but carefully apply Savlon (yes, you're replacing a dark tash with a white one. Ridiculous, isn't it). Leave it alone. For me, this results in fewer spots, but doesn't stop them appearing completely. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
I know I have extremely sensitive skin - doesn't matter what method of hair removal I use I get rashes/lumps/bumps/blotches etc. I usually find Savlon works well, I usually apply it every time I wax or such. I found that for me a lot of creams etc seemed to irritate my skin all the more.0
