carers allowance advice

a friends 80 year old father can no longer look after himself so she has moved in to look after him he is in a wheelchair and has dementia !
She now rents her house out to cover her mortgage but isnt working (does renting her house out go against her is this classed as income ) ! can she claim carers allowance ? any other benefits can he claim he recieves a private pension but shes strggling and doesnt want him to go in to a home

    I can't answer the question about other benefits, but for her to claim carer's allowance, he must be in receipt of attendance allowance.

    If he doesn't get AA it might be worth a call to Age Concern, as they can come out and help them fill in the forms.
